How We Helped Ron Keep His Maine Home 

“Hi, my name is Ronald Howard and I am at my seventies now. I have been living in Maine for almost thirty years. I got engaged; married and bought my first and only home in late 70’s. In our sweet little home overlooking a spectacular green landscape, I and Sharon became parents of three lovely kids. Soon we realized that we need a bigger house. Some of my friends and families suggested for a new home. But for Sharon it was a big ‘no’. Our eldest son John moved out to New York for a federal job. He got married there in 2000 and is a loving dad of two beautiful daughters himself. Shila, our daughter, lives in Maine with her husband Edward, a software engineer. Our youngest son Robert has just finished his PhD on geology and has entered as a teacher in Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. He is married to Tina and is a father of a newborn son. This is my family. 

Everything was perfect in my family; we had perfect health, a home of our own, two cars, children settled in good positions, adoring grandchildren. What else could you ask for? I retired from my job in 1996 and with my benefits I was pulling on quite well with Sharon in our sweet home. 

It all began with my first stroke in 2006. Our expenses grew with my treatments and medications. Meanwhile, Sharon too got ill. It became difficult for me to meet these and some other additional expenses. So, against all our wills, we agreed to sell our lovely home and move in a smaller one. We shed a lot of tears for this inevitable decision; we really couldn’t see our lovely home sold. 

In such a hard time, Edward, our son-in-law, came up with an idea that changed our lives. He introduced me to something called “Reverse Mortgage” – something that we didn’t much know about.
